Britney woke me up for breakfast and was the first to say “Merry Christmas” to me. We went to the dining hall finding it nearly bare. There were only a few other groups who were eating breakfast. I figured everyone else would be opening gifts in their rooms or sleeping. I know I wished I was sleeping. Being up all night made my body ache. Britney pulled me to the same table as Sam, Sid, Joey, and Kyle.

“Merry Christmas,” they called out, all excited.

“Merry Christmas,” we said in return along with smiles.

Pain surged through my back as I sat down. It went away after a while, but I was just happy to see Sam safe. He was there, in front of me. He was alive and well. Sam was acting like himself. He didn’t seem even phased by last night. I guess what that mage said was true. The mage might have placed a spell of some kind on Sam to make him forget about last night. That mage had kept his promise. Maybe they weren’t all evil like the Guardians said.

After breakfast, we went to the ski hill. We were the first ones to snowboard down the hill for the day. I wasn’t going to let my injury prevent me from enjoying this day. In the relative solitude, I let happiness and relief wash over me. I survived the centagon’s lair with only one serious wound and a few scratches and bruises.

I took my board and surfed down the slopes. It wasn’t until I was halfway down the hill that the pain became too much. I wiped out, sliding the rest of the way to the bottom, twitching violently.

“Connie!” yelled Kyle as he came to my aid. “Someone call the nurse.”

My back turned cold and felt wet. That’s when I knew my wound had reopened and blood was pouring out. Dizziness overwhelmed me, making me weak and lose consciousness.
